In 2013 following careers as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Educator, Barbara Brown fell in love with pastels. "As a self taught artist, I was inspired to paint the sights and idyllic scenes of the Schwenksville and Skippack area where I now live. Inspiration also comes from my travels, family photos and still life compositions which I create". Barbara loves the vibrant colors pastels enable her to achieve in her work and can't wait to paint the scenes she captures traveling and on forays into the community. Recently, Barbara has given several Brayer Technique pastel underpainting workshops.
TECHNIQUE:
I underpaint a basic "thumb-nail" like sketch with pastels, and wash with alcohol on a brush. I then layer in more pastel and finalize with details. Recently, I have experimented with a brayer and India inks diluted with alcohol for underpainting with satisfying artistic creativity.
